Buckhorn Camps Employment Opportunities

Come live and play in the North Maine Woods!  Buckhorn Camps is located on a 400 acre Island with frontage on Middle and Lower Jo-Mary Lakes. The Appalachian Trail, endless ponds, lakes and streams, and Mount Katahdin are our backyard. Access is via boat in the warmer months and snowmobile during winter season. The boat ride is approximately a 10 minute ride from our landing. Buckhorn Camps is a traditional Maine Sporting Camp with a primary focus on outdoor recreation, fishing, and hunting  experiences.  We are family owned and operated.

Maine Sporting Camp Assistant (Camp cook)

The camp cook wears many hats from preparing dinner in the lodge, cleaning cabins for guest arrivals and departures as well as performing miscellaneous tasks to operate a successful sporting camp. 

The ideal candidate should deem the following qualities:

  • Accommodating and outgoing personality
  • Strong work ethic and self motivated
  • Ability to work with others; teamwork is extremely important
  • Ability to be flexible and reprioritize; never a dull moment around Buckhorn Camps!
  • Ability to interact with guests and enhance their North Maine Woods experience

Required responsibilities include (and are not limited to):

  • Planning and preparing hearty homestyle meals – during the summer season we offer dinner. During the Winter season, and organized hunts/fishing excursions, we offer a full american plan (three meals).
  • Must be ServSafe certified or willing to acquire the certificate prior to joining the team.
  • Assist with cleaning of the lodge, cabins and communal areas.
  • Assist with laundry
  • Housekeeping duties include cabin preparation and clean up, and laundry.
  • Picking up inventory/supplies on the mainland
  • Ideal candidate has remote living experience, the love of the outdoors and North Maine Woods.

Maine Sporting Camp Assistant Perks

  • Healthy compensation package with year end bonus
  • Two days off per week (determined based on guest turnover/occupancy a week in advance)
  • Room and board. 
  • Access to all of our facilities (boats, canoes, kayaks). Access to fresh water swimming, hiking (near 100 mile wilderness), and peace and serenity! 

 

Maine Sporting Camp Facilities Assistant – Camp Hand

The Facilities Assistant wears many hats from maintaining the facilities for guest arrivals and departures to managing the waterfront to splitting/stacking wood for winter season. 

Required responsibilities include (and are not limited to):

  • Assisting with opening up and closing of facilities each Spring and Fall
  • Assisting with day-to-day operations of the camp
  • Assisting with maintenance of systems and upkeep of grounds, cabins, and lodge
  • Fueling and maintaining boats
  • Splitting and stacking firewood
  • Assist guests with luggage and gear upon arrival and departure
  • Operating a 22 and 24 foot pontoon boat 
  • Assisting with projects such as trail blazing, brush cutting, and trail maintenance.

The ideal Camp Hand desired qualities include: 

  • Knowledge of operating and maintaining light duty equipment such as ATV’s, snowmobiles, tractors, and watercraft up to 24 feet.
  • Skilled in carpentry, and have knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and generator. 
  • Love of the outdoors, working with people, and is familiar with fishing and hunting.

  • All team members will have two days off per week. Days off will be determined weekly according to guest occupancy. Fishing, boating, and in the woods, are available to you during your down time.
